Getting Back

I've been trying to get back into writing and updating my blog-presence, particularly when it comes to our recent (year+) adventures in building a tiny house. I have become rather indecisive on whether to continue updating through this blog, make another, or start an entirely separate website devoted to the tiny house (I've done all three). Yikes. Sorry for the confusion! I hope to have something up soon just devoted to my newly-formed LLC - Taonga Design Company, LLC. Check back for updates!

A Revelation.

A revelation.

Do you know where your food comes from?  Did you know that America spends the least amount of money per capita on food than any other industrialized country?

There are a few things in my life that I've felt strongly about. The love for my husband. The love of God - it binds me. The joy I receive from family. I've also felt strongly about leaving a legacy. About caring, as the Iroquois Nation would put it: the Seventh Generation.

Why are we so supportive of famous athletes and movie stars but not the farmers and ranchers who craft our food? My God. My heart breaks to know that they are losing a very large battle.

Can it be changed? I pray so.

We have begun a journey to recapture our health; to savor our foods and know where they come from. To be a part of the process and to champion around those who toil. The results are stunning. Fresh blood orange and kale salad with a lemon-olive oil vinaigrette. Beef with a balsamic vegetable reduction. Let the journey begin.

50 Projects: 52 Weeks (27. Glossy Greeting Cards: Happy Rock and Farm Dog Jack)

This was too easy. Found a great deal on Shutterfly (10 Free Greeting Cards! Just pay shipping); I have ordered cards from them in the past, and have always been happy with the quality and thickness of card stock, etc...

These are just prints of two photographs I have on Etsy for sale. Super quick. Looks professional.

Watson Lake: Reflections and Color

A last-minute jaunt last week to Watson Lake produced some magnificent shots.

Peaceful.

Beauty and the Beast

Well, almost. These are our pets: Frank, the cat, and Tealk, the dog. Both are amazing little personalities and our lives' aren't the same. But how could we live with ourselves knowing the either one of these furballs would have lived a life in a kennel or at the humane society in a cage. Nope. Not these two.

Love the soul patch!

Frank is also fond of break-dancing...

The Monster.

This is what we have dubbed: "The Thing." It's where trolls come from.

And, yes, our animals are color-coordinated.

50 Projects: 52 Weeks (26. An Autumn Sunset)

Misty. Ethereal. Chilly. Warm. Autumn is my favorite season and I know that I am going to miss the colors changing in Wisconsin. Colorado doesn't get the spectrum of colors like the shores of Door County or the hillsides of Devil's Lake would. Inspired by a sunset, this is another painting I hope to put on Etsy soon but deserves a little blurb here.

Layering and representing streaks of sunlight is challenging for me to paint. I am probably my own worst critic. But this one has been a work in progress for, years? I don't even remember when I started this.

But, just put on a sweater and think Fall. Chai anyone?
